Perception vs. Reality?

 

We live in a time where perception is reality. But “faking it until you make it” is harder than ever. Whether you are starting a new venture or you’re an established brand introducing a new product or sales initiative: your story is under more scrutiny than ever before.

 

A future customer can test your propositions within seconds: You claim to be the next big thing with Gen Z but your social media has 300 followers? You claim to be the hottest industry thought leader but your last blog post was from 2018? Your website looks like it was designed 5 years ago with dated corporate stock photography?

 

If perception truly is reality, then perception should be a well orchestrated symphony of digital content that is at your new customer’s fingertips. 

 

But these are exciting times. If your story is well told and your product is a cut above the rest, customers are as interested in buying from you as ever. A more educated customer requires more careful positioning and more sophisticated storytelling, but the old adage still rings true: No one likes to be sold, but everyone loves to buy.

3. Traditional Media / PR: how do you check out when people google you? What does  "the world" say about you?
